Privacy Policy

Australia Live Public Transport is a free, non-commercial hobby project that shows public transport moving around NSW, South East Queensland, Adelaide and Canberra in real time. This page explains what information is and isn't handled when you use it. In short: there is no sign-in, nothing personal about you is stored, and nothing is shared with anyone. We do count how many people visit each day — how that works, and how to opt out, is set out below.

Information we collect

There are no accounts and no sign-in. We do not ask for, collect, or store your name, email, or other personal details, and we never sell or share data about you.

Counting visitors

We keep a simple count of how many people use the map each day, so we know whether anyone is out there. It is built to give up everything it doesn't need:

• No cookies and no tracking scripts. Nothing is stored on your device for this, and there is no advertising, no analytics company and no third party involved.
• Your IP address is never recorded. When the map loads, your address is mixed with a secret number that exists only in our server's memory, scrambled into a code that cannot be turned back into an address, and only that code is kept.
• The secret changes every day and is never written down. So the code that stands for you today cannot be matched to the one from yesterday, and nobody — including us — can work backwards from it.
• Those codes are deleted after two days. What we keep is a single line per day: how many visitors, and how many times the map was opened.
• We do not follow you around the site. Nothing records which vehicles you click, where you look, or how long you stay. We do count how many times each city button is pressed, as a plain running total with nothing attached to it.
• If another site links to us, we note that site's name — just the name, like example.com, never the full web address, which can carry your search terms.

Opting out. If your browser sends a "Do Not Track" or "Global Privacy Control" signal, you are not counted at all — nothing at all is recorded for your visit, not even anonymously. Most browsers offer this in their privacy settings, and some send it by default.

Your location

If you use the "show my location" button, your browser asks for your permission and uses your device's location only to display your position on the map, on your device. Your location is never sent to our servers and is not stored or shared.

Server logs

Like most websites, our server may keep standard technical logs (such as your IP address, the time of a request, and your browser type) for a short period to operate the service, keep it secure, and prevent abuse. These logs are not used to identify you personally and are not shared with third parties, except where required by law.

Cookies and tracking

This site sets no cookies at all, and uses no advertising or third-party tracking of any kind. The site may store a small setting in your browser (for example, your dark/light preference and chosen filters) so it remembers your choices — this stays on your device and is never sent to us.

Transport data

Live vehicle positions and timetable information come from Transport for NSW Open Data and Translink (Queensland) Open Data and Adelaide Metro – Department for Infrastructure and Transport, South Australia and Transport Canberra, all licensed under CC BY 4.0. This project is independent and not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any of them.

Third-party services

Map imagery is provided by OpenStreetMap and CARTO; your browser loads map tiles directly from them. Links to X (Twitter) and Ko-fi lead to third-party sites. These services have their own privacy policies, which we don't control.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date above will change when we do.
